British Senate Drumming Out Thursday 16 – Sunday 19 January 2020
ABode Hotel, Canterbury, England
Welcome to Canterbury, our venue for the British Senate Drumming Out in January 2020. This ancient city in the south-east of England was first established in prehistoric times, where it was predominately inhabited by Celtic tribes. In the first century AD it was captured by the Romans and named Durovernum Cantiacorum. Today you will find plenty of evidence of Roman, Medieval and modern times in this compact and interesting cathedral city. It is famous for Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales and is the site of the historic Canterbury Cathedral founded in 597 and completely rebuilt in 1070. The city itself is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Our hotel is the Abode, which is located in the middle of the High Street and is made up of three old buildings. The High Street runs along most of the length of the city centre and the hotel is within walking distance of Canterbury West railway station.
Full travel and joining instructions will be given before the event and will also be available on the Drumming Out page of the British Senate website. For British Senators we recommend travel by train to Canterbury West Station and walk to the hotel.
For Senators travelling from abroad it is possible to fly to Heathrow or Gatwick airports, or take the Eurostar train to Ashford International and on to Canterbury West. If you are flying to the UK, please advise us of your flight, airport of arrival and expected time of landing. For those arriving at Canterbury West by train please advise your expected arrival time.
