Drumming Out 2024

13th January 2024 - 14th January 2024

Drumming out 2024 – Programme

Please join Penny Gill and her team in Sheffield on 11th-14th January 2024 as we drum her out and welcome in our new
2024 Chairman Nick Hawley Sheffield is the city where Penny grew up.
Her grandfather had just been made Lord Mayor when she was born and she witnessed the first Lord Mayor’s
Parade organised by Sheffield Junior Chamber of Commerce (SJCC) from the Town Hall balcony at
two months old. Little did she realise that 30 years later she would be a member of SJCC and witnessing
the same event as their President.

Accommodation
The Mercure St Pauls in the centre of Sheffield is our base. This is next door to the Town Hall
and just a stones throw away from the theatre. The train station is just a 10 minute walk and there is
parking nearby. Sheffield is on a main line and the journey there is under two hours from London.

We have used up our allocation of special rate rooms in the Mercure, although there are rooms still available in the hotel so please ask –  you can contact us on moc.liamg@tuognimmurdsb if you would like advice on alternative accommodation.

Programme
Thursday Night
The drumming out will start with an early two course dinner at Brown’s Restaurant followed by a trip
to the famous home of snooker –the Crucible Theatre, to see a production of the musical White Christmas
including an ice-cream at the interval. Those arriving later are welcome to dine at the hotel or at one
of restaurants close by before joining up with the theatre goers in the hotel bar when they return.

Friday
In the morning we will be travelling by tram down into the Lower Don Valley where we will pick up minibuses to
transport us around 3 of the factories belonging to the Gripple Group, a business owned by Hugh Facey #25921.
This will be followed by lunch at Glide, the business’s training and social facility before we catch the tram
back to the city. In the afternoon there is a choice of three tours around some of the city centre’s most
iconic buildings. You can choose between the Cutlers’ Hall, Millennium Galleries or Sheffield Cathedral
and we will be asking for your choice nearer the time. The day rounds off with a buffet dinner and fabulous
musical entertainment back at the hotel

Saturday
We start the day with a trip around Kelham Island Museum which illustrates the history of the Steel industry
within Sheffield.
You will get the opportunity to witness the famous River Don Valley Engine in action before we hop on a bus to
take us along to the historic Tapton Masonic Hall for lunch.
Here you will enjoy a 2 course luncheon with drinks of your choice and our foreign visitors get a chance to speak.
There should be the chance to enjoy a quick tour of the building before we hop back on the bus to the hotel.
The Bumble bee club will meet in the afternoon and there is time for you to enjoy a walk around the city centre
or even some retail therapy before the Drumming Out Gala Dinner itself which will take place inside the historic
Town Hall.
Here we will enjoy a sumptuous three-course Dinner and Penny will be ceremonially Drummed Out and the chain
passed on to Nick.
For those who wish to continuing partying, we have secured a discounted drinks deal with Manhatta Cocktail Bar
which is conveniently situated just across the road from the Town Hall.
