Drumming Out 21-24 April

21st April 2022 - 24th April 2022

Dear Senators, friends and guests
We really hope you will be able to join us for the “Not The” Drumming Out weekend which will take place in the vibrant city of Leeds, Yorkshire.  This slightly delayed but still fun-filled weekend will allow us to properly drum Janice Hadfield out as Senate Chairman in 2020 and 2021 and formally confirm Jonathan Nicholson in post.

The Conference Hotel is Weetwood Hall, set in nine acres of beautiful woodlands and gardens on the outskirts of Leeds, built around a 17th Century Jacobean Manor House.  This offers an inspiring blend of old and new, with a range of single, twin and double rooms available for 1, 2 or 3 nights.  You will need to ring to book your room – 0113 230 6000 – and quote Drumming Out 2022.   All prices include bed and breakfast: Single at £79; Double at £99; and a handful of Feature rooms at £109.  (www.weetwood.co.uk). If you would like to look at other accommodation options, please email us and we will provide further details.

Thursday 21st April
The evening entertainment will take place at Weetwood Hall.  There won’t be a panto but, fear not, we have an evening of entertainment planned and a lovely 2-course meal to enjoy.

Friday 22nd April
We will be taking you on a tour of Leeds City Centre.  There will be two options, a “museum meander” on a leisurely basis and a slightly more energetic walk round the city.  Our experienced guides will tell you all the secrets of the city as they take you round some of the famous landmarks.  A 2-course lunch in a local restaurant to relax and experience more senate friendship.
In the afternoon you will have a number of options which will include: a walking pub tour in Headingley (only for the hardy drinkers!); a trip to one of the many galleries and museums; the chance to enjoy some of the city’s amazing shops.  All costs to be covered yourselves (especially the pub tour).
On Friday evening we are back at Weetwood Hall for Yorkshire Night. Expect rhubarb, Yorkshire puddings, parkin, wensleydale cheese, Yorkshire tea and curd tart – although not all on the same plate.   Enjoy brass band music and Tales from the Dales.

Saturday 23rd April
Saturday morning there’s a choice to visit the National Royal Armouries, which cares for one of the most important arms and armour collections in the world. It was originally housed in the Tower of London from the 15th century and is one of the oldest museums in the world. It transferred to Leeds in 1995. It’s something you should see and visit when in Leeds. There are some spectacular exhibits to see.
An alternative option is Temple Newsam which is a Tudor-Jacobean house with grounds landscaped by Capability Brown. It is steeped in history as the grounds were first recorded in the Doomsday book in 1086. Newsam means new houses and Temple refers to the Knights Templar who owned the grounds.
It was seized by Henry Vlll in 1537 after he beheaded Darcy and then again seized by Elizabeth l when Henry, Lord Darnley married Mary Queen of Scots
Join us to learn more about its fascinating history and see the splendour of the furnished rooms and house in this gem on the outskirts of Leeds.
We will then have lunch at the magnificent Art Deco Grade ll listed Queens Hotel in heart of the City centre which was frequented by the likes of Princess Grace of Monaco, Cary Grant and Nelson Mandela. Then of course the hotel will receive us, the JCI Senators where we will recognise our visiting international Senators and enjoy the fellowship before those who are Bumblebees get together for their annual meeting. For others there’s free time to relax or go shopping!

The main event of the weekend is the Drumming Out Dinner to be hosted at the world famous Headingley Stadium, home to Yorkshire Cricket and Headingley Rugby. It has recently had a multi million pound refurbishment done and the facilities are superb.
In the central banqueting suite we can observe either side these two famous pitches and is where we will have our fabulous Black Tie evening, with entertainment, and see Janice Hadfield finally Drummed Out of office and officially installing Jonathan Nicholson as British Senate Chairman 2022. There will be dancing afterwards or alternatively busses will take you back to the hotel.

Sunday 24th April
The traditional Senate Breakfast – with steak and champagne (well, more likely to be Cava…) – will be held at Weetwood Hall and will give incoming Senate Chairman Jonathan Nicholson the chance to re-introduce his team and tell you more about the plans for 2022. There will be a small supplement for breakfast those who are staying at Weetwood Hall (to cover steak and fizz).

Online booking is now closed, for last minute bookings please contact Sally-Anne Greenfield.

We are looking forward to seeing you in Leeds in April 2022.

Janice, Len, Neil, Emma, Julia, Amanda, Graeme and Sally-Anne
