Dear Senators and friends, in October the British JCI Senate will be celebrating the best of food and drink, an historic heritage railway GWSR and a lovely Cotswold village. Its modular because you can dip in and out as it pleases you.
Friday 18th October
Our base will be the beautifully restored Gloucester docks. The suggested accommodation is at the Premier Inn Gloucester (Quayside), Bakers Quay, St Ann Way, Gloucester GL1 5BQ. Phone 01452 930650. If you are arriving early you could visit Gloucester Cathedral or the National Waterways Museum. The museum is just a 5-minute walk from the Premier Inn, and it is open until 5pm. The cathedral is a 16-minute walk and is open until 6pm. Alternatively you could browse the outlet shops in the Quays shopping centre.
In the evening we will have dinner at the Carluccio’s restaurant in the new Gloucester Quays.
Saturday 19th October
We will meet at the Cheltenham Racecourse Station of the Gloucester Warwickshire Steam Railway
(GWSR). The GWSR station car park is accessed through the main signposted Cheltenham Racecourse
entrance at the roundabout on the Evesham Road. Drive through the racecourse and follow the signs to get to the GWSR carpark. The post code of the racecourse is GL50 4SH. We will be catching the first train, a diesel railcar train to Toddington, at 10.10, due to arrive at 10.46. Here there will be an opportunity to have your first visit of the day at the ever popular Cotswolds Food and Drink Fayre. There will be around 40 stalls here to make your mouth water.
We will leave Toddington at 11.50 on a steam train to Broadway where we are due to arrive at 12.06.
Broadway is the newest station on the railway and the line from Toddington was only opened last year. The station has been built in the style of the original which was demolished when the line closed. A mile away is the lovely village of Broadway. We will journey to the village on a classic Routemaster London Bus. In Broadway we will have the opportunity to have lunch with our Senate friends and a little time to browse the shops and lovely village before boarding the bus back to the station. We will leave Broadway Station at 14.30 on a steam hauled train to Winchcombe arriving at 15.10. Here there will be an opportunity to visit more stalls of the Cotswolds Food and Drink Fayre. At 16.10 we will join the last train of the day, which will again be steam hauled, back to Cheltenham Racecourse, arriving at 16.35, where we will say our farewells.
Do book the Premier Inn as soon as possible. The later you leave it the more ££ it will be! Please let me know you are coming so we can secure the best rates, click book URL above. Payment will be taken later.
