Surrey Kings and Paupers Weekend

Join our fantastic ‘Surrey Kings and Paupers Weekend’ Friday 8th – Sunday 10th September 2023 based in Beautiful East Horsley in the Surrey Countryside.

Thursday 7th September. Some people have indicated that they may arrive in Surrey on Thursday afternoon. It is suggested to use a hotel in central Epsom and have a meal out in the Town. Let us know if you wish to join us then.

On Friday 8th September there is an opportunity to visit the RHS gardens at Wisley. The annual flower show will be on so its an exciting time to visit.

RHS Members can go free but will need to book in advance as the show usually sells out. Non members can join us at a rate of £16.50 each. Late afternoon we will head to our hotel in East Horsley for a relaxing Senate evening.

On Saturday 9th September we have a full day’s programme. After breakfast we will head off to visit Hampton Court Palace by coach. During Saturday we have the Senate’s favourite coachman Gregg who will chauffeur us everywhere. At all other times we will use our own transport. Here we will Experience the public dramas and private lives of Henry VIII, his wives and children in the world of the Tudor court. Admire Henry’s Great Hall and Tudor Kitchens in the spectacular Baroque Palace. After our lunch we will head to Guildford where there may be a few surprises as part of the heritage open day. We will have a guided walking tour, about a 90-minute amble around Guildford. Finally, we will return to our hotel and prepare for our evening meal. The all-inclusive cost for the day is £50 for those 65 or over and £55 if you are a young Senator.

On Sunday 10th September join us in the morning for a visit to Polesden Lacey a nearby National Trust. Tour Mrs Grevilles home which hosted weekend parties in the 1920’s, 30’s to Kings, Princes and the ultra-rich or just enjoy a peaceful walk in the grounds and formal gardens. There are also four waymarked routes around the estate, each differing in length and difficulty, but all with stunning views of the Surrey Hills. National Trust members go free and non-members admission fee is £15.00 each. We will return to the hotel for our included farewell lunch and then bid you bon-voyage home.
