Friday 12th May
Our base for the weekend is the Mercure Dorking White Horse Hotel which is right in the middle of Dorking’s High Street.
Check in will be available from 2pm. So, for early arrivals there will be an opportunity to explore this lovely market town, the home of the Dorking chicken.
We will all gather in the hotel bar at 7.30pm to enjoy convivial pre-dinner Senate friendship, perhaps over a drink or two (at your own expense) and we will then enjoy our dinner at 8pm in the restaurant.
Saturday 13th May
Breakfast is included in your package at our hotel and then we will gather for a 9.30am departure. We shall drive in our own cars to the RHS gardens at Wisley. Here we will be able to learn about the excellent work of the Royal Horticultural Society’s work who’s aim is to enrich everyone’s life through plants and make the UK a greener, more beautiful place. We are planning one or two surprises during our morning visit to Wisley.
There will also be an opportunity to explore the grounds of Wisely which is regarded as one of the world’s great gardens, packed with horticultural inspiration. You can also, if you wish visit the shop. A light lunch has been included in our day time programme. In the afternoon, we will visit the largest vineyard in England, the Denbies wine estate. Here we will enjoy a tour which starts in the brand new flat screen cinema featuring ‘The Vineyard Through the Seasons’. Then we will learn about the geology and history of the estate and experience the changes in the vineyard through the seasons and appreciate the wine making process from vine to bottle. We will pass through the working winery with a full commentary where you will see the equipment used in today’s wine production. A must for any Senate tour will be in the atmospheric cellars where you will be guided through a tasting of Denbies classic wine. Afterwards you may linger in the shop, pay a visit to the top of Box Hill where there is a National Trust visitor centre or head back to our hotel for some relaxation. In the evening our three-course black-tie gala dinner will start at 7.30 with a welcome drink before we sit down to dinner with wine or a soft drink. Of course, the hotel bar will open for those after dinner discussions.
Sunday 14th May
Once again breakfast will be served in our hotel. Follow this those who would like to see some of the natural Surrey countryside can embark on a tour of Barry & Sue’s extended back garden, aka Epsom Common. We will aim to arrive at Barry & Sue’s house where a BBQ lunch will be provided with drinks for just £15 per person.
