The Black Diamonds & Poppyheads weekend in Rotherham
This weekend has sold out
Saturday is our chance to get some culture. Our day starts, after breakfast in the hotel, with a visit and guided tour of Wentworth Woodhouse.
Following a lunch of homemade soup and sandwiches at Wentworth Woodhouse, we will journey back in to Rotherham for a tour of Rotherham Minster and the Chapel on the Bridge. The minster is Grade I listed building
There has been a church on this site in Rotherham since the 10th Century though the fabric has been through many extensions, re-builds and restorations. It was originally the parish church of All Hallows later All Saints. Hallow is just an old term for saint as in Halloween.
The Chapel of Our Lady on Rotherham Bridge is one of a handful of medieval bridge chapels left in England. Before the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the reign of Henry VIII Chantry Chapels were common sights in Medieval England. They were built for pious travellers to give thanks for a safe arrival or pray for a safe journey.
Rotherham’s Chapel has been used as a prison and as storage before it was restored to its present glory.
Back to the hotel to refresh and then we will be transported to the venue of the JCI Yorkshire Regional Dinner – an ideal opportunity to support the organisation which has given us all so much and to celebrate the successes of the Yorkshire Region.
Following breakfast on Sunday, anyone who has the stamina can pay a quick pre-Christmas rush visit to Meadowhall Shopping Centre, or the lovely Wentworth Garden Centre – transport to these locations will, however, not be provided.
